Iron and Sediment Filtration in Hurst

Orange rings in the tub, grit in the faucet screens, a water heater that pops and rumbles. We find out where the iron or sediment is coming from, then fit a filter sized for your home. Drop cloths go down before any tools come out.

What this filter does and when it makes sense

Iron and sediment filtration catches rust, sand, scale flakes and other particles before they reach your faucets, fixtures and appliances. It goes on the main water line, so every tap in your home gets the benefit.

Not every stain means you need one. Rust can come from an old galvanized pipe, a tired water heater or a one-time line repair down the street. That is why we start with water testing or a close look at what you are seeing. If a small cartridge or a pipe repair will fix it, we tell you that. If the problem is steady and shows up at every tap, a dedicated filter is usually the right call.

Iron filters and carbon filters do different jobs. If chlorine taste bothers you too, we can pair this with whole-house carbon filtration so each one does its part.

What the job includes

A look at the source

We check your water and your plumbing before we pick equipment. Clear water that turns orange after it sits points to dissolved iron. Water that comes out cloudy or gritty points to particles. Each needs a different filter.

The right filter type

For loose sediment, a spin-down screen or cartridge housing often does the job. For heavier iron, a backwashing media tank cleans itself on a timer. We explain the trade-offs in plain words.

Bypass and shutoff valves

Every install gets a bypass so you can keep water running during a filter change or service visit. You will know where it is and how to use it before we leave.

Drain and power hookup

Backwashing filters need a drain line and an outlet. We route both neatly and keep the drain away from your foundation and flower beds.

Protection and cleanup

Drop cloths on floors, runners on the path from the door and tarps over landscaping when the main line is outside. We haul away packaging and old parts.

When rust or grit shows up at your taps

Stains that keep coming back
Rust-colored rings in the toilet bowl, streaks down the shower wall, spots around the drain. You scrub them off and they are back within a week or two.
Clogged aerators and showerheads
Unscrew a faucet screen and you find sand or tiny flakes. Showers get weaker as the holes fill up.
Yellowed whites
Towels and shirts come out of the wash with a rusty tint. It is often worse on the first load of the morning, after water has sat in the pipes overnight.
A rumbling water heater
Popping or rumbling from the tank usually means grit has settled on the bottom. That layer makes the heater work harder to warm your water.
Metal taste or hazy water
A glass that tastes like a penny, or looks cloudy against the window light, is worth a test.

How the work goes

  1. 1

    Phone call and questions

You tell us what you are seeing and how old the plumbing is. We set a time that works for your household and let you know what to expect.

  2. 2

    Test and recommend

We test the water and check where the main line enters your home. Then we show you the options and give you a written estimate before any work starts.

  3. 3

    Install day

Floors and plants get covered first. We shut off the water, cut in the filter and valves, and set up the drain if one is needed. Most installs are done in part of a day, and we tell you before the water goes off.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough

We flush the lines, check for leaks and show you the bypass and the filter schedule. Then we clean up and leave the area the way we found it.

What moves the price

The cost depends on what is in your water and how your plumbing is laid out. A simple sediment cartridge costs far less than a self-cleaning iron tank. We give you a written estimate after testing, so you see the price before we start.

How much iron is in the water
Light sediment needs a basic filter. Heavy dissolved iron needs a larger media tank that backwashes.
Your home's water use
More bathrooms and more people mean a filter that can keep up with higher flow without dropping pressure.
Where the main line is
A line in the garage is easy to reach. An outdoor line may need a cover and insulation for the occasional North Texas freeze.
Drain and power access
If a backwashing filter needs a new drain run or outlet nearby, that adds time and parts.

Iron and sediment filtration questions

Should the water be tested before a filter goes in?
We suggest it. Rust may be coming from your own pipes or water heater, and no filter repairs a failing pipe. Testing shows the type and amount of iron or sediment so the filter is sized correctly.
Can a softener handle the iron instead?
Softeners can take out a little dissolved iron, but that isn't their job and it can foul them over time. If hardness worries you as well, we test for it and bring up a softener only when the numbers back it.
How much service do these filters need?
Sediment cartridges typically get changed a few times a year, depending on how dirty your water runs. Backwashing tanks ask for less, though the media still needs checking over time. Our filter replacement and maintenance service keeps it on track.
Does a filter lower water pressure?
Not noticeably if it's the right size for your home. A drop usually means a cartridge has clogged and is due for a change.
How do you protect my house during the work?
Drop cloths and runners go down before work begins, plants near an outdoor line get covered, and we clean up at the end. We tell you when the water goes off and when it comes back.
